Graduate Profile
Cassandra Mossman had completed her nurse's training and was a full-time mother when she discovered the Graduate Diploma in Anthroposophical Nursing. Although she enjoyed being a nurse, she felt her interests in homeopathy, naturopathy and holistic care weren't being met. One day she picked up a pamphlet about Taruna, and now she feels that the programme found her.
"I wanted to put the heart and soul back into nursing. I felt so lucky to find a program that recognized that nursing is a fine art." Cassandra found the programme to be a wonderful extension of nursing, yet the approach wasn't anything like the intellectualized experience of her mainstream training. In fact, upon completing the three-year programme she decided not to return to mainstream nursing, but rather to set up a healthcare center at Weleda. Natural Nursing Therapies is a nurse-only clinic that Cassandra owns and manages with Michelle Vette. "Growing a business is challenging at times, but also exciting and exhilarating."
Cassandra believes that it is the job of a nurse to "support another person during the healing process." To that end, the Anthroposophical Nursing programme encourages students to develop themselves while developing empathy. "I experienced huge personal development, and the programme gives students a lot of autonomy to work as nurses," she says. "I felt very well supported during and between seminars by the tutors."
While her clinic focuses on a wellness-type of nursing, Cassandra says she also has an interest in palliative care. She feels the course has given her the tools to pursue whatever interests she may develop. "I would definitely recommend the programme. The whole course is full and nurturing and really extended my nursing practice. It opened my eyes and gave me a different insight into the human being."
The Graduate Diploma in Anthroposophical Nursing consists of two 10-day seminars each year for three years. |
