Graduate Profile
Tricia Russell studied the Certificate in Art of Health in 2006.
Tricia felt that it was time for a new approach to health care. Although she found her career in nursing satisfying, "there was a whole dimension missing. I wanted to reconnect with my intuition and kinesthetic ability." It was while she was pursuing a Master's in Management Psychology that she found the Art of Health Course at Taruna. "I had put myself back into the world of cold, head knowledge. The mainstream academic framework doesn't encourage real connections between health care professionals and their patients and colleagues."
The Art of Health Course gave Tricia a new understanding of the human being as a fourfold being, and introduced her to the 12 senses. "The course gave me a way to connect with the whole human being." She feels this approach--being able to interact with her patients on a number of levels, using a holistic manner--increases the self-esteem of her patients. She also believes the course helped her get a clear framework for what health means. "Health is not just the absence of illness in the physical body. It's so much more than that." Tricia recommends the course to anyone interested in understanding health from a holistic perspective and understanding themselves as health professionals. "The course helped me translate feeling into thinking. In fact, I think I've translated feeling into doing." She continues to do art in her free time and says that she "sees the colours of the world quite differently now."
"I'm just glad a course like this exists. Our world needs this kind of language; we've become disconnected from the realm of conscience and feeling," she says. "It's time for head, heart and hand to be connected." |
