Zoe Vilhena - Natural Home Nursing

“Who else knows my children so well?” This is why Zoe Vilhena says she did the Natural Home Nursing short-course at Taruna this year.  Zoe saw it as a logical step to empower herself and her family in the knowledge and skills of a natural approach to her children’s health care.“I wanted to have more understanding of child health and do the real thing,” says Zoe, who also enjoyed the experience of meeting other like-minded parents.

On completion of the Natural Home Nursing course, Zoe felt better informed and more skillful with meeting illness in her children and recommends the course. “It’s very real for people from any walk of life. No matter what kind of person you are,  you’re going to be meeting it (illness) with children.”

Zoe has three children – Lua (5), Kaue (3) and Manu (9 months) and lives true to natural health care philosophies.
For Zoe, the home nursing course made homeopathics and anthroposophical medicine much more accessible. Anthroposophical health care is not new to Zoe, who says she was “born and raised” in anthroposophy.  “I’ve always had my Mum who is an Anthroposophical Masseuse” but, she says, she wanted to make the connections herself.

In the end, the best testimony must come from a happy bouncy child.  “When I have sore puku my Mum makes me a special tea,” says Lua. “Even when I have a fever my Mum puts a lemon sock on my foot.”

“I liked the way we were encouraged
to do things like make our own bandages
and grow or find our own raw materials”

Not only did Zoe learn about her children, but she was reminded to maintain her own well-being. “We talked about what we do to breathe out,” she says, and not just remain the “eternal care-giver.”
